Wildfire Smoke Kills

An estimated total of 52,480 to 55,710 premature deaths are attributable to wildfire smoke from California fires from 2008 to 2018. When inhaled, wildfire smoke contains fine particle matter (PM2.5), which can penetrate deep into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream. Prolonged exposure has an associated link to a range of long-term health issues, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems, and decreased lung function. [source]
